Little Known Muppets: ONE
First of all if you're an all out Muppet geek like I am then you'll be able to name this next Muppet without any problems:
That's right! It's Uncle Deadly, the Phantom of the Muppet Show Theater who was killed by the critics as he reported himself. He's a pretty awesome Muppet, in terms of looks. He's has kind of a Chinese dragon-like look.
Uncle Deadly has more of a role in the upcoming movie apparently. COOL!

Reeve on Sesame Street
Yesterday's post was about Christopher Reeve guest star appearance on The Muppet Showback in 1980. Here's an interesting tidbit about Reeve and the Muppets from Muppet Wiki page on Christopher Reeve:
"Reeve first became friends with Jim Henson and Frank Oz while filming Superman: The Movie outside of London, at a nearby studio. He occasionally supplied background voices and was invited to manipulate on of the Japanese Pole Vaulters in episode 221 of The Muppet Show."
In the episode, Miss Piggy had quite a crush on the man of steel as is seen here in this little picture of her dressing room:
Unlike the Muppet show, today's post will end a bit heavier. Of course the Muppets lost their own great superhero in 1990 when Jim Henson died. The Muppets aren't all about Henson, but without him they certainly never would have been.
In 1995, Christopher Reeve was paralyzed when he was thrown from a horse during an equestrian competition. From that time until his death in 2004 he lobbied for stem-cell research and became a public face for people with spinal cord injuries. Here is a clip of Christopher Reeve and his son Will on Sesame Street in 2000:
Reeve's appearance on Sesame Street is beautifully tragic. Sesame Street, just like a child, has always dealt directly with all kinds of "difficult" issues (such as Mr. Hooper's death in 1983). Big Bird talks about his wheel chair in such a matter-of-fact way, as if he were discussing a new shirt or hair cut. Amazing. The clip is so well done in that it doesn't speak down to kids. It doesn't tell them what they should think. It's all real raw presentation. I don't know what else to say but amazing.
I don't want to get too cerebral in analyzing the appeal of the Muppets. I just want to end simply by saying that I, for one, think they make the world a much better place.

Here's the closing of the show, in which Piggy's patented karake chop is thwarted by Reeve's superior strength--something that seldom happens to our ham-fisted heroine:

Muppets Meet Superman
Kermit the Frog is an awesome Superman in this picture by Amy Mebberson:
When Christopher Reeve guest Starred on the Muppet show Miss Piggy had a bit of a crush on Christopher Reeve (as did many of us!) Superman fever was in the air back then.

Miss Piggy and Wonder Woman
Lynda Carter guest starred on The Muppet Show, but not in her capacity as Wonder Woman. Miss Piggy, however, had no problems with dressing in the Amazon's wardrobe.
"Eat your heart out Lynda Carter!"
There's been a lot of talk about remaking Wonder Woman for television or maybe even making a feature length movie. It would certainly be a difficult task. Lynda Carter, for many, IS Wonder Woman. I know she is for me. Lynda Carter was all things as Wonder Woman: strong, sexy, compassionate. She was very female but very SUPER. To quote the theme song "You're a wonder, Wonder Woman."

Bat Man Meets the Muppets
I like the Two-face Fozzie/Animal mash-up. I think that's my favorite:
Over at the blog Quinnarama, Quinn Rollins made some batman mash-up figures with Link Hogthrob and Dr. Strangepork (I like to call them Bat-hog and Ropork):
No nipples in these costumes (I don't believe that Muppets have nipples):
"Holy Mee mee mee mee, Beee mee!"
(Not sure who did this one so let me know!)

Marvel Muppets
I've always been more of a DC kind of guy but I like to give Marvel it's due.
Spiderman is probably my favorite Marvel hero. Grover is my favorite Sesame Street Muppet ever.
"It is only our 17th opening night sir..."
"You must be patient, sir, it is Bono's first show ever."
AWESOME!!!
A close second to Spiderman is the X-men. Her's a pic of the M-Men.
Finally we've got Captain America, who I know very little about.
Sam the Eagle is the perfect fit though, is he not?
Muppet Superheroes
Prepare for several days
of Muppet/Superhero posts.
Get ready for loads of
AWESOME...

Pigs in Space Meets Star Wars
I like the combination of bacon and cinnamon buns, don't you?
My god, C3PO is so tightly wound, even on the Muppets.

Muppets Invade Mongo!
We wouldn't be "Retro Geeko" without the awesome sci-fi, now would we. Why just a few weeks back we had an awesome post about Flash Gordon, remember?
Want more?
But, as you know, it is Muppet week. Hmmm? What a kerfuffle. I'll see what I can do...

FrankenMuppets
Here are a few more Muppet Halloween tidbits. Which one makes the better Frankenstein?
(The first is from an old Miss Piggy Calendar
and the second is from a series of comics I know nothing about.)
